In a 40 to 60 square metre room the seating pieces sit 2 to 4 metres apart and are seen together from the entrance, so a colour step between the central sofa and a side sofa is immediately visible to the end client. Remediation after delivery means refinishing or replacing individual pieces, and a replacement piece cut from a later batch will not match the set it joins.

Our solution: every nine-piece set is allocated a single timber batch, and the batch is defined by documented criteria rather than a verbal promise. A batch is the boards sawn from one log group and dried together in the same kiln charge; the set is cut only from boards within that charge. Boards are density-sorted to 0.90-1.00 g/cm3 and conditioned to 8-12 percent moisture content before joinery begins, so all nine pieces respond to humidity at the same rate and hold their colour relationship. The batch number is recorded on the packing list that travels with the shipment, so your inspector can match the crates to the batch record on arrival.

Why the joinery holds where mixed-batch sets fail: seat rails use 18 mm tenon-depth mortise-and-tenon joints and backrest stiles use 16 mm tenons, with every right-angle intersection locked by a solid wood corner block and bamboo dowels driven through the tenon. No metal fasteners are used in the primary frame, so the wood expands and contracts with the seasons instead of stressing a screw hole. Each completed frame is tested with 120 kg of horizontal force applied over 24 hours at the joint; any joint showing visible movement is re-fitted before the set proceeds to finishing. Moisture is verified at three points per piece with a pin-type meter, and readings outside 8 to 12 percent trigger re-conditioning.

What that means for your order: single-batch allocation is intended to keep colour and grain consistent across the nine pieces; because the timber is solid and natural, minor variation in figure between pieces is normal and is not treated as a defect. The joinery is tested with 120 kg of horizontal force over 24 hours, and the test records can be provided with your order documents. The nine pieces ship in four ISPM-15 heat-treated crates with a combined gross weight of approximately 260 kg and a combined volume of approximately 4.6 CBM, so a 20-foot container with 22 CBM usable capacity takes approximately 2 sets (9.2 CBM). The set is covered by a 24-month structural warranty on joinery and frame under normal indoor use.

Nine-Piece Grand Living Room Configuration

This nine-piece set is built for grand residential living rooms, embassy reception halls, and large boutique hotel lobbies of 40 to 60 square metres. It comprises one three-seat central sofa, two two-seat side sofas, two single armchairs, one coffee table, two end tables, and one console table — nine pieces in total, all cut from a single batch of Siamese rosewood (Dalbergia cochinchinensis) so colour and grain stay consistent across the set.

The console table can sit against a wall or behind the central sofa as a sofa table. In rooms under 40 square metres, it can be omitted to form an eight-piece configuration. Seat height is 44 cm across all seating pieces.

Dimensions by Piece

Seat height is 44 cm. The central sofa occupies 205 x 70 cm of floor; with the two side sofas and two armchairs the seating group needs roughly 5.5 x 3.5 metres of clear floor, leaving a circulation path of at least 90 cm around the group in a 40 to 60 square metre room. Material and Craft

The set is made from solid Siamese rosewood (Dalbergia cochinchinensis), a hardwood listed under CITES Appendix II. Frames are assembled with mortise-and-tenon joinery reinforced with bamboo dowels — no metal nails — and finished with seven hand-rubbed coats of raw lacquer, each coat cured for 24 hours and rubbed back with pumice stone before the next is applied. The backrests use the classic Ming open-slat pattern with a hand-carved chrysanthemum medallion at each rail centre, cut in shallow relief at 1.5 to 3 mm depth. Because the carving follows the grain of each individual board, minor variation in relief depth between panels is normal and characteristic of hand work.

Certification and Export Documentation

Two separate documents apply to this product, and they prove different things:

• FSC Chain-of-Custody (CoC) certification — verifies that the timber was procured and tracked through a certified chain of custody. This is a certification of the timber supply chain, not a certification of the finished furniture.

• CITES export permit — required to legally export Dalbergia cochinchinensis, which is listed under CITES Appendix II. This is an export authorisation document, not a certification. CITES Appendix II is a species-protection listing level, not a certification in itself.

Every shipment includes the CITES export permit, the FSC chain-of-custody certificate copy, a commercial invoice, a packing list recording the timber batch number, and a wood drying certificate showing moisture content at 8 to 12 percent. Scanned copies can be shared on request so your customs broker can verify compliance before you place an order.

Production and Quality Control

Each nine-piece set is allocated a single timber batch to keep colour and grain consistent. Timber is kiln-dried to 8 to 12 percent moisture content. Every piece passes four checkpoints before packing:

• Joint load test: 120 kg of horizontal force applied over 24 hours at each mortise-and-tenon connection. Any joint showing visible movement is re-fitted.

• Moisture verification: pin-type meter readings at three points per piece (seat rail, backrest stile, armrest). Readings outside 8 to 12 percent trigger re-conditioning.

• Carving detail check: each chrysanthemum medallion is inspected for chisel marks indicating tool slippage; structural damage to a panel is cause for rejection.

• Finish inspection: surface inspected under 5000K daylight-balanced LED lighting at 30 cm distance. Runs, sags, or uncured spots are reworked.

Installation and Maintenance

The set arrives fully assembled in four ISPM-15 heat-treated crates. Position the central sofa against the tallest wall so the 95 cm backrest carving is visible at eye level. Confirm your room dimensions and doorway clearance at inquiry so we can advise on layout and delivery access.

• Cleaning: Dust with a soft dry cloth. Wipe spills immediately with a slightly damp cloth and dry straight away. Do not use alcohol, acetone, ammonia-based cleaners, or abrasive pads, which can dull or strip the raw lacquer.

• Care: Keep the set out of direct sunlight and away from radiators or air-conditioning units to avoid drying and cracking. Aim for a stable indoor relative humidity of 40 to 60 percent; below 35 percent the solid wood can lose moisture and open at the joints.

• Finish: The raw lacquer is a natural finish. Re-apply a thin coat of furniture wax once or twice a year to maintain the sheen.

• Notes: Use felt pads under heavy objects and lift pieces rather than dragging them across the floor.

Packaging and Export Documentation

Each piece is wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and corrugated cardboard, then packed in an ISPM-15 heat-treated wooden crate with EPS foam corner blocks. The full set ships in four crates with a combined gross weight of approximately 260 kg and a combined volume of approximately 4.6 CBM. The four crates are loaded as follows:

• Crate 1 — central sofa: 215 x 80 x 105 cm, approx. 95 kg

• Crate 2 — two side sofas: 160 x 78 x 100 cm, approx. 78 kg

• Crate 3 — two armchairs: 80 x 76 x 100 cm, approx. 42 kg

• Crate 4 — coffee table, console table, two end tables: 140 x 80 x 60 cm, approx. 45 kg

A 20-foot container with 22 CBM usable capacity takes approximately 2 sets (9.2 CBM). The crates are not stackable and each set must be braced against movement in transit, so the remaining capacity is reserved for stowage clearance and lashing rather than filled with additional sets. Below 2 sets the shipment moves as LCL and freight is billed per cubic metre.
