For high-humidity or very dry destinations, we recommend a secondary conditioning matched to your local average humidity before finishing — confirm your destination climate when requesting a quotation so we can advise on the right conditioning profile. Frames use mortise-and-tenon joinery with 20 mm tenon-depth seat rails and 18 mm backrest stiles, reinforced with bamboo dowel pins and corner blocks — no metal fasteners in the load-bearing structure. The five-claw dragon armrests are hand-carved over roughly 40 hours each, and the nine-coat hand-rubbed raw lacquer finish penetrates the wood pores rather than forming a brittle film that cracks when the frame moves. Hand-Carved Five-Claw Dragon Armrests

The signature feature of this set is the dragon motif carved directly into the armrest panels. Each armrest is worked by hand over roughly 40 hours by carvers in our Xianyou workshop, using chisels and gouges rather than CNC routers. The dragon design follows a Qing-dynasty court pattern with five-claw detailing, a motif historically reserved for imperial furniture. No two armrests are identical because the carver adjusts depth and flow to the grain of each specific board. Carving is done after the frame is assembled, not before, so the carver can see the armrest in its final orientation and keep the dragon body aligned with the rail beneath it.

Production Process

This set follows a six-stage manufacturing sequence optimized for grand-scale carved sofa configurations:

• Stage 1 - Timber Batch Allocation: A single Siamese rosewood timber batch is allocated to each eight-piece set to ensure colour and grain consistency. Timber is air-dried for a minimum of 12 months, then kiln-conditioned to an 8–14 percent moisture range with a target of 14 percent or below, followed by a 36-day constant-humidity conditioning cycle in our Xianyou factory.

• Stage 2 - Component Cutting and Grain Matching: Each component is cut on a sliding table saw with a tolerance of plus or minus 0.3 mm. Armrest panels are selected for boards with the tightest interlocked grain, which holds the dragon carving detail cleanly.

• Stage 3 - Frame Joinery: Mortise-and-tenon joints are cut to 20 mm tenon depth on seat rails and 18 mm on backrest stiles. Seat rails are 38 mm thick solid rosewood to carry the live load of three adults on the central sofa without mid-span deflection. Bamboo dowel pins are fitted dry before glue application. Corner blocks are glued and doweled at every right-angle intersection. No MDF, plywood, or veneer appears in the load-bearing structure.

• Stage 4 - Dragon Carving: Five-claw Qing court dragon motifs are carved by hand on each armrest panel after frame assembly. The carver works from a reference drawing but adjusts dragon body flow and claw detail to the grain of each specific board.

• Stage 5 - Nine-Coat Raw Lacquer Finishing: Nine coats of raw lacquer are applied by hand, each cured for 24 hours and hand-rubbed with pumice stone. The lacquer penetrates the rosewood pores rather than forming a plastic-like film, preserving the tactile grain texture. The final coat achieves a deep satin sheen. Note on food contact: the cured lacquer is a decorative wood coating and is not certified for direct food contact; if your project requires food-contact compliance documentation, request the applicable test report at the inquiry stage.

• Stage 6 - Batch Consistency Check: Colour and grain of all eight pieces are compared against the central sofa as reference. Pieces showing visible deviation are re-finished or re-selected.

Quality Inspection

• Joint Stress Test: Assembled frames are loaded with 120 kg of distributed weight for 24 hours under our in-house inspection procedure. Any joint showing visible separation is re-fitted. Test records can be provided at the inquiry stage.

• Carving Relief Check: Each dragon armrest is inspected under a 10x loupe for chisel marks indicating tool slippage. Structural damage to the armrest panel is cause for rejection.

• Batch Consistency Check: Colour and grain of all eight pieces are compared against the central sofa. Pieces showing visible deviation are re-finished.

• Moisture Audit: Three-point readings per piece. Readings outside the 8 to 14 percent range require re-conditioning before the piece can pass.

• Finish Uniformity: The lacquer surface is inspected under 5000K LED lighting. Colour consistency across the eight pieces is verified against a reference panel.

Care and Maintenance

Following these care guidelines helps keep the set within the conditions covered by the 24-month structural warranty:

• Daily cleaning: Dust with a soft, dry cotton cloth along the grain. For deeper cleaning, use a cloth lightly dampened with clean water and dry immediately — do not use alcohol, acetone, abrasive cleaners, or chemical polishes, which can dull the raw lacquer surface.

• Heat protection: The lacquer surface tolerates normal indoor temperatures; short-term local heat resistance is approximately 60–70°C per our workshop finishing guidelines. Always use coasters or trivets under hot tableware, as hotter items may leave marks.

• Indoor humidity: Keep indoor relative humidity in a moderate, stable range and avoid placing the set directly against air-conditioning outlets, radiators, or in prolonged direct sunlight, which can accelerate wood movement.

• Warranty exclusions: The 24-month structural warranty covers joinery failure and frame cracking under normal indoor use. Damage caused by improper maintenance, outdoor exposure, water immersion, or exceeding normal load limits is not covered.

Enterprise Capability

Single-set orders are completed in 60 to 75 days from deposit confirmation, and batch orders of 2 or more sets extend to 80 to 95 days; container (FCL) shipments are arranged once production and inspection are complete, and partial shipments are available for long-term partners. The workshop maintains FSC chain-of-custody documentation and holds CITES export permit registration for Dalbergia cochinchinensis shipments; CITES export permits are processed for each shipment, and importing buyers must apply for the corresponding import permit in their own country. Packaging and Export Documentation

Each piece is wrapped in acid-free tissue paper, then corrugated cardboard, then placed in an ISPM-15 heat-treated wooden crate with EPS foam corner blocks. The full set fills four crates with a combined gross weight of approximately 280 kg. Every shipment includes CITES export permits, FSC chain-of-custody certificate, commercial invoice with HS code 9403.60, packing list with crate dimensions and gross weight per piece, and a wood drying certificate showing moisture content within the 8–14 percent range.
