Buyer Pain Point and Our Solution

With the table centred, the 90 cm width leaves about 100 cm of clear circulation on each long side in a room 3.0 metres wide, and about 130 cm in a room 3.5 metres wide, which is the clearance most buyers need to pull a chair out and walk behind it. Boards are grain-orientation sorted: grain angle is checked against the length axis with a digital angle gauge before cutting, and any board whose grain deviates more than 4 degrees is diverted to shorter components, which limits longitudinal movement across the 180 cm span. Timber is kiln-conditioned to 8 to 12 percent moisture content, then held in a 20 to 25 degree Celsius, 45 to 55 percent relative humidity conditioning room for a 48-hour equalization period before machining. The table apron is a four-rail mortise-and-tenon frame joined to the leg posts with 18 mm tenon depth, and chair seat rails use 16 mm tenons at the back-post junction. Each of the eight chairs carries a hand-carved bamboo (zhu) motif backrest, roughly 16 carving hours per panel, and the five-coat glossy lacquer uses a coating material specified to meet FDA 21 CFR 175.300 for food-contact use (this applies to the coating material only, not to the finished table as a whole). How the Tabletop and Frame Are Built

The tabletop is assembled from edge-joined solid boards with bamboo dowels along the join line, so the panel is solid timber rather than a veneered substrate. Because the top spans 180 cm, board selection matters more than on a short table: grain angle is checked against the length axis with a digital angle gauge before cutting, and boards that deviate more than 4 degrees are moved to shorter components. The apron is a four-rail mortise-and-tenon frame; the leg posts take 18 mm tenons, and chair seat rails take 16 mm tenons at the back-post junction. No metal fasteners are used in the primary frame; the corner blocks are solid Siamese rosewood, and metal is limited to the crate fixings used for shipping.

Bamboo Motif Backrest Carving

Each of the eight chair backrests carries a hand-carved bamboo (zhu) motif, a classical Chinese decorative element associated with integrity and resilience. Each backrest panel takes approximately 16 carving hours. The carver works with chisels from 2 mm to 12 mm width, cutting stalks and leaves in shallow relief at 2 to 4 mm depth. Because the carving follows the grain of each individual board, minor variation in relief depth between chairs is normal and characteristic of hand work.

Production Process

This set follows a four-stage manufacturing workflow:

• Stage 1 - Grain-Orientation Sorting: Siamese rosewood boards are inspected for grain angle relative to the 180 cm length axis using a digital angle gauge. Boards with grain deviation exceeding 4 degrees are diverted to shorter-component products. Selected boards are kiln-dried to 8 to 12 percent moisture content, then held in a 20 to 25 degree Celsius, 45 to 55 percent relative humidity conditioning room for a 48-hour equalization period.

• Stage 2 - Tabletop and Frame Construction: The tabletop is assembled from edge-joined boards using bamboo dowels along the join line. The table apron uses a four-rail mortise-and-tenon frame connected to leg posts with 18 mm tenon-depth joints. Chair seat rails use 16 mm tenons at the back-post junction.

• Stage 3 - Bamboo Motif Carving: Bamboo motifs are carved by hand on each chair backrest after frame assembly. The carver works from a reference template but adjusts stalk and leaf depth to the grain of each backrest board.

• Stage 4 - Lacquer Finishing: Five coats of glossy lacquer are applied in a dust-controlled booth. Each coat is sanded with 400-grit paper before the next. The coating material is specified to meet FDA 21 CFR 175.300 for food-contact use; the compliance statement applies to the coating material, not to the finished table as a whole.

Quality Inspection

• Tabletop Flatness: A straightedge is placed across the tabletop at three points along its length. Gaps exceeding 0.8 mm trigger re-planing.

• Joint Load Test: Every chair is tested individually. The seat is loaded with 100 kg of static weight for 24 hours, applied to the seat panel. Any joint showing visible separation is re-fitted. This is an in-house QC procedure, not a third-party certification, and it does not represent a rated working load for commercial use.

• Carving Relief Check: Each bamboo motif is inspected under a 10x loupe for chisel marks indicating tool slippage. Structural damage to the backrest panel is cause for rejection.

• Moisture Audit: Three-point readings per piece using a pin-type moisture meter. Readings outside 8 to 12 percent trigger re-conditioning.

• Finish Inspection: Surface inspected under 5000K LED lighting at 30 cm distance. Runs, sags, or uncured spots are reworked.

Installation, Use, and Care

The set ships fully assembled; no on-site assembly is required. Because the frame is solid timber conditioned to 8 to 12 percent moisture content, keep the set in a normally heated or cooled indoor space at roughly 18 to 26 degrees Celsius and 40 to 60 percent relative humidity, which is the range the timber was conditioned for. Avoid placing it against a direct heat source or in an unheated room with sustained high humidity; in very dry or very humid climates, use a humidifier or dehumidifier to hold the room inside that range.

After transit, inspect each leg-to-apron joint before use: look for a visible gap at the shoulder line, then hold the tabletop edge and apply light lateral pressure to check for movement. If a joint shows a gap wider than 0.5 mm or any rocking, stop using the piece and contact us for a replacement component or a repair instruction rather than tightening it with screws. Wipe the lacquered surface with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid solvent-based cleaners and abrasive pads. The five-coat lacquer resists everyday spills and normal wiping; for deeper scratches or worn areas, a light local re-polish can be arranged, and we can supply the matching lacquer for touch-up on request. For long-distance moves, lift the table rather than dragging it.

Packaging and Export Documentation

The set ships in two crates: one for the tabletop and legs, one for the eight chairs stacked in pairs. Each piece is wrapped in non-woven fabric with EPS foam corner blocks. Crates are ISPM-15 heat-treated, built from 12 mm plywood panels with 40 x 60 mm timber battens, and rated for stacking two crates high. Crate 1 (table) measures approximately 190 x 100 x 30 cm; crate 2 (eight chairs) measures approximately 100 x 60 x 100 cm, giving a total packed volume of approximately 1.17 cubic metres per set. Total gross weight is approximately 175 kg including crates and packing. A 20-foot container is loaded at approximately 6 sets per container in practice: the 190 cm crate length and the 100 cm crate height limit how the crates can be turned and stacked inside the 589 x 235 x 239 cm internal container space, so the container is not filled to its volume or weight limit. Every shipment includes CITES export permits, FSC chain-of-custody documentation, commercial invoice with HS code 9403.60, and a wood drying certificate.
